This section will give you a few options to help you view Japanese from an English (non-Japanese) computer. It is not a complete list, but should at least get you started so you can continue with your Japanese-Online lessons.

Standard English (non-Japanese) versions of Windows only include support for English and European character sets. In order to view or print Japanese, it is necessary to have support for the Japanese character set as well as a Japanese font. Here are three software options that will allow you to view the lessons.

1. KanjiKit 97, by Pacific Software Publishing
   KanjiKit 97 provides 2 Japanese TrueType fonts, a Japanese input engine and support for the full Japanese character set to be used in most Windows applications. You will be able to view Japanese on the Internet, send/receive Email and type/edit/print Japanese from your favorite Windows applications. 2. Internet Explorer 6.x
   by Microsoft
   This option involves switching browsers to Microsoft's Explorer if you are not already using it, but MSIE will provide the viewing of Japanese along with many other standard web browsing features. After downloading Internet Explorer 6.x, you will then need to download the international extensions for Japanese in order to support viewing of Japanese on the internet. 3. Shodouka, by Mediator Technologies, Inc.
   Shodouka will let you read the kana and kanji on any Japanese document on the WWW without the need for any special software. You will basically be accessing the site with the help of the software on their computers that will display the Japanese as graphics on the screen. From the top of each Japanese online page, just click the icon to have Shodouka help you view the Japanese text! Click here to visit the Shodouka site and test it for yourself.
4. Shareware and various other options
